NOVEMBER 2016 ROUND OF GRANTS
The Foundation is pleased to announce the following grants:
Great Ormond Street Hospital – Drug Redeployment programme
The sum of £65,000, to this project which shows huge promise for advancement in treating childhood leukaemia. The researchers have already lighted upon two drugs, both established as safe for use in humans albeit in other fields, that show promising results in destroying leukaemia cells in laboratory tests. We now anxiously await further news as the team progress these drugs towards clinical trials. Meantime the researchers continue their intensive efforts to hunt out other drugs with similar potential.
Bloodwise (formerly Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research) – Towards more effective and safer treatments of Childhood Leukaemia
The sum of £30,000 to a new ground breaking project based at the Institute of Cancer Research which will bring greater understanding of why some children relapse, their leukaemia returns and is even more difficult to treat. This research goes on to address how we can more effectively target the disease in those doubly unfortunate children and bring them back to a healthy life.
Royal Marsden Hospital
The sum of £10,000 towards the on-going work of this world-renowned centre for cancer treatment. The grant is dedicated to childhood leukaemia.
